This week’s parsha discuses Yaakov’s dream. In his dream, he sees a latter with angels going up and down and Hashem at the top of it. Rabi Meir compares this with another dream. He compares this with Paroh’s Dream. Paroh dreamt about the seven fat cows and the seven skinny cows. This was inferring the famine.

Why does Yaakov dream about angels while Paroh dreams about cows?

The answer is how and what they both do throughout their day.

Yaakov is completely devoted to Hashem the entire day. He is always thinking about ways to serve Hashem. Therefore, because he is continuously thinking about holy thoughts, he is going to have holy dreams.

Paroh devoted his day to materialistic and physical things. That is all he cared about. Therefore, he dreamt about something physical like a cow.

On another related note, the Shulcah Aruch says that you should wake up in the morning ready to serve Hashem. The Rama says to go to sleep knowing who you are in front of.

How do these two thoughts relate with this week’s parsha and Yaakov?

Because, if we, just like Yaakov, have the intention and thoughts the entire day to serve Hashem, then we will go to sleep knowing who we are in front of. And if we go to sleep knowing who we are in front of, we will also wake up that way ready to serve Hashem.
